Mendes called Gosling's 'Fall Guy' costar a 'total babe' in her post that also praised the action movie's support for the stunt community

Eva Mendes is praising husband Ryan Gosling for advocating for stunt performers, while also giving a shoutout to costar Emily Blunt

Gosling and Blunt star in 2024's The Fall Guy, which has been described as "a love letter" to Hollywood's stunt community

Stunt work will be recognized by the Academy Awards beginning with the 2028 Oscars

Eva Mendes is giving praise to both husband Ryan Gosling and his Fall Guy costar Emily Blunt as well as Hollywood's admirable stunt community.

On Friday, April, the 51-year-old actress took to Instagram to celebrate the success of The Fall Guy and her spouse campaigning to have stunt work recognized by the Academy Awards.

"Unfortunately, success is almost only measured by box office. So I’m extra proud of my man for turning his entire Fall Guy press tour into a campaign to get stunts recognized by the Oscars," Mendes wrote in her slideshow post that included Gosling, 44, and director David Leitch standing next to @dudewithsign creator Seth Phillip holding a sign that reads "Give stunts an Oscar."

Gosling recently collaborated with the popular Instagram account for a humorous Fall Guy promo last April.

"And now after Almost 100 years of stunt design not being acknowledged by the Academy, it’s officially a category!! This is a HUGE success! And an achievement that will last. Congratulations to the the incredible stunt community!!" Mendes added.

Emily Blunt’s daughters may not be thrilled to learn about the alleged Devil Wears Prada sequel.

According to Blunt, 10-year-old Hazel and 7-year-old Violet were not fans of her character in the 2006 classic. “They thought I was the meanest person they’ve ever met,” Blunt told Page Six of their reaction at the 18th Annual American Institute for Stuttering gala.

It’s been nearly 20 years since Blunt played Emily, the carb-hating Runway magazine assistant competing with Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) for the attention and favor of editor in chief Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). “It’s incredible that [The Devil Wears Prada] has such an indelible fingerprint on people and it’s people's standby feel-good movie,” Blunt told Page Six. “It’s quoted to me every week.”

Of course, Blunt’s daughters—with husband John Krasinski—were not completely wrong in their assessment. Though Emily softened toward Andy by the end of the film, some of her one-liners were as brutal as they are iconic and quotable.

Whether Emily Blunt’s daughters like it or not, her character’s relationship with Priestly will reportedly serve as the central focus of The Devil Wears Prada sequel. Though Disney has not officially announced a follow-up film, Variety reports the project “follows Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.”

What about Andy Sachs? Well, Hathaway has been pretty blunt about returning to this universe. “There’s not going to be a sequel. It’s not gonna happen. We can’t do it,” she told Entertainment Tonight in 2023.

Her position somewhat softened in 2024, though she still had strong reservations. “We all love each other and if somebody could come up with a way to do it, I think we’d all be crazy not to,” she told V Magazine in April. “But there’s a huge difference in the world now with technology, and one of the things about that particular story is it was about producing a physical object. Now with so much being digital, it would just be very different.”

She continued, “Maybe me, Stanley, Emily, Meryl, Dave Frankel, Patricia Field…we should just all do something else together. That’d be fun.”

Before Scarlett Johansson made her way into the MCU, Emily Blunt was set to take her place in one of the universe's most iconic spy roles.

Over the years, Emily Blunt has been known for her roles in films like A Quiet Place, The Devil Wears Prada, Fall Guy, Pain Hustlers, and more. However, back in 2009, the actress had a chance to join the MCU in a role she almost played but lost to another Hollywood star.

Although Blunt would have loved to join the superhero-verse as Black Widow, it was a dream that never ended up being realized. After all, due to scheduling conflicts, Scarlett Johansson was eventually given the role.

It might be hard to imagine anyone other than Johansson playing the superspy now. However, years after the miss, Blunt ended up revealing why she had to pass on the iconic role.

Why Emily Blunt turned down Scarlett Johansson’s iconic role

Emily Blunt was initially set to appear as Black Widow in 2010’s Iron Man 2, the movie that introduced the character to the MCU. However, despite being eager to take on the role and even being cast, she was forced to give it up for another project.

In an interview with Howard Stern, the 41-year-old decided to set the record straight on why she passed on the role that eventually went to Scarlett Johansson.
